Skip
2003

Skip is an installation of two projects, alongside each other and conceptually linked. One is a video projection through six layers of silk organza. A little girl dressed in bright red and blue, enters the frame, carefully counts her skips up to 25, and leaves, in slowed motion. On the other side of the final screen of this projection is a looped slide projection documenting my portable studio project with the street photographers in Johannesburg’s inner city Joubert Park.

Both projects engage with domestic photographs. Skip as a single entity is about refraction and the space between; the discontinuity between the moment of recording and the moment of looking.
